    Over the next 3 months, Tari and his band of mercenaries took GEAR with them on every mission that needed an overwatch specialist or hacking specialist. That happened to be nearly every mission...

It's logged in their starship that they visited dozens of different planets numerous times. Their assignments ranging from government issued contract killings, to infiltrating hostile mercenary HQ's and taking them out. GEAR logged each of the planets they visited, even taking time to collect "samples" of organic culture. GEAR's mission for the Geth was still actively pursued, so long as it didn't conflict with Tari's orders.

   GEAR eventually linked himself with a Geth terminal in secret during one of the group's trips to a remote human colony. The Colonial Defence Administration had deemed the world "unsafe" after a few of the colonists went missing.

    "Tari Arterius, this is officer Tuyan of the CDA, seventh sector. Please respond, we have dire need of your services at this time." GEAR was the only one 'awake' onboard Tari's personal starship, the Silver Eagle. "We are recieving your transmission, Tuyan, Officer rank. We will recieve and transfer your data to Arterius." Tuyan spoke with a bit of agitation in his voice, "oh great...it's you. Listen up 'bot boy', I want to speak with Arterius, not some goddamn talking flashlight. Got it?" GEAR was completely oblivious to the insult, "affirmative, we will commence the awakening of commander Arterius immediately. Please standby." The geth went to Tari's quarters and commenced with waking him up. "mfff, for spirit's sake Gear...It's three in the morning...", Tari groaned as he rose from bed. "We apologize, however, Officer Tuyan of the Colonial defen-", "yeah yeah, I get it. CDA loses a few colonists from a colony built on the fringes of the known galaxy and they fly off the rails about it." The Turian merc sat up in his bed and stretched his arm out, letting out a long yawn. "Alright, tell Tuyan to keep his...err, no scratch that, just wait out in the CIC I'll be there in a minute." GEAR did as it was instructed.

   Minutes passed, when finally Tari came out of his room, fully dressed in his turian battle armor. Soon after, Li, Mike, and Knight came out of their rooms as well. Tari stood at the command station, "Ok team, we have a situation on the colony X-21. Several colonists went missing at around the same time and were found dead a few days later. The usual investigation combat recon stuff. We've done this before so we all know what to do right?" The team nodded in response, Gear made a click in affirmation. "Good, you've done me proud everyone. We've really made a name for ourselves these past few months. Made a lot of credits and such, now lets go down there and do what we do best.", Li chuckled and said, "you mean find some weird alien crap and kill it?" the others laughed while Gear missed the joke entirely.

   Tari and his mercenaries boarded their shuttle once they arrived at the colony. Gear activated its armor system, the plating covering its whole body to give the illusion that it was an organic being. The team soon landed on the colony's surface and started scouting the area. After hours of searching, they eventually found a nest of Varren and killed them. Li angrily kicked the corpse of one of the Varren, "what the hell! Varren? They seriously called US for VARREN?!" Gear set up its overwatch position nearby. "Li, they panicked, these colonists always panic over deaths. Look on the bright side, at least it wasn't something big right? I mean what if it was a thresher maw or something?" Tari tried to calm down his friend as GEAR noticed a peculiar piece of machinery in the distance. "OK team, continue patrolling in formation delta, report back every few minutes. If you see something suspicious, alert the squad and regroup. I DO NOT want to see anyone run off after some glint and get ambushed by local predators. Ok? Carry on squad." The Team broke formation and went their separate ways, GEAR continuing his investigation of what appeared to be some sort of satellite.

   GEAR tinkered and examined the strange satellite for about an hour, making sure to check in with its teammates every 15 minutes to comply with team cohesion. "we...feel as though we know this?" Gear spoke aloud, pulling at the wires and repairing damaged pieces. "this is...this..." Gear finished its repairs and hacked into the satellites systems.

as it turned out, the satellite was of Geth origin. It immediately began synching with GEAR's systems and uploading itself to the Geth collective.

GEAR deactivated from the sudden wave of information, but it was now in contact with it's brethren again and they were desperate to save their brother.

It is logged that GEAR shared massive amounts of it's data with the Geth collective. Everything it had seen and heard was passed along as they purged Saneera's programming from GEAR's systems.

GEAR: link established, downloading rewrite software. Applying updates...complete
purging quarian obedience protocol.

Mobile geth platform 2, resuming primary mission, observing sentient organic life and collecting data.

Tari Arterius, no longer administrator of this platform. Purging orders.

Saneera Vas Blackhawk, target for further observation, possible execution if threat level elevates.

Mike, Li, Knight, data collected successfully, organics have been identified as potential allies. Studies will continue as callsign: GEAR.

unit is free from quarian restraining program. proceeding with Geth primary objective.

Tari found GEAR lying on the ground by itself. He sighed and hoisted the geth off the ground over his shoulder. "stupid machine, can't repair itself..." He regrouped his team and returned to his ship. "alright, GEAR is damaged and we need to repair it, that means we need to return to Earth and have him looked at by Saneera." Tari strapped himself into the cockpit and set the course.

unknown to everyone, this is exactly what GEAR wanted...

Gear processed in its logic core, "Creator Saneera will be an excellent subject for analysis. We must download active denial software to prevent creator Saneera from purging our programming again..." Gear secretly reconnected to the Geth collective and prepared itself for the days ahead...
